You know what? We're not going to forget.

I will, however, be avoiding the media today. The pseudo-patriotic orgy of breast beating segues too neatly into sabre rattling for any of the shades of the dead to take comfort in how they're being remembered. And the political capital being made of it all bypasses distaste and runs straight into obscenity.

In 13 minutes I will spend a quiet moment reflecting sadly upon what this nation has become, and apologizing to the souls of the lost for how they have been exploited.

Those were some very poignant pictures. Thanks for posting the link.

Today is also my boyfriend's parents' wedding anniversary. They have been married for 32 years.

The pictures are a nice memorial, as it's heartening to see the amount of compassion that was displayed, that we can hope will one day be more powerful than the hatred that caused it.

What's this country that all those people in those pictures from Europe and around the world seem to respect and grieve for and admire?

There was a lot of love in the world then. We squandered every bit of it.
