Currently running Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon). Fresh install. OpenOffice 2.3. There's a Linksys Wireless-G card in the laptop bag but I haven't tested it. I do not have the original install disks. I'm pretty sure the battery is dead but the power cord works!

Tolerable but not outstanding laptop for writing; Open Office is pretty functional. Free to a good home. If there are no takers in the next 24 hours it's going to Freecycle.

My kid is minus a laptop. Would this be very difficult for a Linux neophyte to use?

I don't think so. It has menus and windows and stuff. I don't know how hard it would be to get it to print; I am not a Ubuntu expert. I suspect fairly easy if you have someone clued around.

If you want it, how would we get it to you?

I have a friend at work who could REALLY use it. He does a lot of wildlife work and stays late to use the computer at work, and on a keeper's salary, can't afford a computer. I'd live to give it to him if it's not already spoken for.
