Brokered Convention
Dec. 11th, 2007 11:04 amIt's election time; it must be time for the media to start talking dreamily about the potential for a brokered convention. This is always a win because it would be a lot more interesting if the parties didn't have a clear nominee going into the convention, so people always want to talk about the possibility. The above link covers the Republican possibilities; I haven't seen anyone talking about the chances of a brokered convention for the Democrats. Yet. Wait till the surprising Edwards victory in Iowa for that.
It never actually happens, though. That said, the missing element of the Republican race: there hasn't been an anointed successor. Chalk it up to a divided national party, I guess -- none of the Republicans have gotten the usual big business/DC beltway blessing that Bush got in 2000, and Dole got in 1996, and Bush got in 1988. So maybe we will have a fun convention this year! There's hope yet.
