The great thing about weblogs is that sometimes people will write down the things you were thinking about in such a clear and cogent fashion that any need for you to write about them is utterly eliminated. Thus, I give you Maciej's essay "Dabblers and Blowhards." In theory, there's an entire class of annoying bloggers I'll never have to write about again.

In practice, I'll get frustrated every four months or so and post something irritated and someone will say "Dude, what did you expect?" But it's nice to have dreams.

As a class, sure, you're right, but I think there's plenty of room to write about how annoying Dave Winer is. (Particularly now that he's annoyed a whole new category of bloggers, which is to say, podcasters, to the extent that even Adam Curry seems unwilling to mention him now.)

He's just so predictable! I keep writing about him, and then going back and saying "Hm, but I wrote that same post six months ago."

This led me to an amusing experiment. I googled on "Dave Winer tantrum" (sure to be a hoot) and lo and behold, the second hit was you writing about him in 2002 with "Dave Winer has gone barking mad"...

As it happens, I needed slightly different keywords, but finally found this: http://archive.scripting.com/2004/12/31

Which was pretty much the end of anyone I know in podcasting caring what Dave Winer had to say.

Seriously, what is Dave Winer's deal? Do people still care about what he says because he was one of the big people behind the start of weblogging? What exactly has he done or said that is so cool?

Damn. My googlejuice ain't bad. Hm... PageRank 5, which is what it's been at for a year or so. Probably about what one should expect from a small-time personal blog.
