For some bizarre reason, I read the 6th movie on your list as "Vampire Cock Ring", which (I imagine) would be a whole other movie.

Isolation seriously rocked. It was one of the only films that I was nervous about that I grabbed passes to at the SIFF and it was among my favorites. I wanted to see Five Deadly Venoms and Shinobi at SIFF too, but unfortunately, they were at the same time as The Window and The Man Who Cheated Himself and thus I'll have to rent. :(

Sadly, we can only go to one week of the festival, rather than both. Hard choices either way! We're hoping to pick up all the things we missed (and Descent and Frostbite are two of my biggies) over time.

Next year, we want to try for both weeks. Raar!

What michele_blue said. :) I dunno, next year if we only make one week I gotta remember that the bigger movies play in the first week. On the other hand, most of the Russian flicks are second week, and a bunch of Miike, and yeah. So we gotta go both weeks.

Gotcha. I hadn't realized that you were only doing part of the festival. That is a pretty impressive line up of films for one week though. I've only gotten to three films in a day due to logtistics. The time it takes to get from one theater to another, the wait in line, and working in a meal here and there makes it too challenging to do more unless I pick one theater and just see the line up there in one day, something that I haven't been able to make work.

I was sad that there wasn't any Miike at this year's SIFF. I was a little sad that I decided to skip Izo last year and that was a very interesting film. Not nearly as challenging or as disturbing as I was led to believe. And you gotta appreciate the look and tension of Miike's films, although I have not yet made it all the way through Ichi, the Killer.

I liked Izo, all in all. Not challenging beyond accessibility, although definitely difficult. I wouldn't say disturbing at all. People just expect Miike to disturb, and he gets pigeon-holed.

Fantasia has superb theaters from the point of view of transit -- there are only two venues, and they're right across the street from one another. On the other hand, they're both lecture halls at Concordia University, so the sound is not always what one might like.
