There are no free weblog clients for the Mac. I don't deserve a free weblog client, but I'm not sure there are any weblog clients I want to pay for, either.

I don't think that's correct.

VersionTracker's search engine has 29 results that matchname includes "blog" and License==Free. SF.net has 518 entries matching "blog", many of which are written in Java and therefore portable.

Maybe one of those will work?

What do you mean by "weblog client"? I'm pretty sure some of the LJ clients support the same APIs that other Weblogs have.

It's not entirely correct, in that I could use a Firefox addon, if I used Firefox.

On the other hand, when I cut out all the stuff from those results that isn't actually a blogging client, I get a bunch of Livejournal clients and a bunch of Blogger clients. Most of the latter haven't been updated in 2+ years. The Blogger API != the MT API or the WP API.

I'm not exactly complaining, although it is sort of irksome; I'm just noticing. I dunno if it's cause of API divergence or what. Or just coincidence.

S'a good question. What's the current state of the art in weblog APIs, anyhow?

If ceej's LJ client supports Atom, I'm probably fine when it's done.

Most of the pre-2-years ago stuff has migrated to Atom, which is probably why that set of tools died. There are java-based tools that will work for that, but you're right, no one seems to be making a good, free, app for MacOSX. ecto and MarsEdit are good, but they're not free.
