I pushed this before, but now we're into open beta and I have a better feel for the place. So!

RPG.stackexchange.com. It's a site dedicated to roleplaying games. The format is question and answer; the expectation is that questions will have answers. Questions like "what are some games with cyberpunk in them" are bad, because you'll just wind up with a list. We're kind of wrestling with questions like "what are your house rules for D&D." Questions like "What house rules do you use in D&D 3.5 to get this particular desired effect" seem to be OK.

It's interesting to me because we're the first really non-technical Stack Exchange site. (Cooking is technical. They're getting all up in the chemistry of pan surfaces over there.) This means some of the typical disdain for subjective questions you see on other Stack Exchange sites has been tempered. I'm really curious to see if they decide to bring us out of beta into production or not; our paradigm may be too far outside the desired focus of their family.

So far Jere is asking my favorite questions, because he has specific things he wants to do and wants advice on how to do them. Made of awesome. I also like all the technical 4e questions because I can answer them.

This site gives me my favorite answers to questions so far. Its very streamlined and no where near as subjective as RPG.net or EnWorld

Do you feel like you are winning? The reputation system is rather fun in its own way.

It is! The problem, though, is snapping up the low-hanging fruit before [livejournal.com profile] bryant gets to them.

I really like this thing. I've been looking for a new medium to have substantive conversation (in the broader sense) about RPGs since I don't have a forum I like these days, and this just might do it.

By the way, thanks for mentioning this again - I'm really enjoying it, but it totally slipped my mind the first time you mentioned it.

I'm beginning to get the feeling that the crowd on Meta are finding me more an irritating troll than intelligent and thoughtful.
