Estimated time till I'm printing my own miniatures on demand (but still have to paint them): 5 years, tops. Maybe add another 5 before they come out of the hopper pre-painted.
Ideally the raw material for the printer can be recycled. When WWII is hot you print out a company of Yanks, but when fashions change they go into the hopper and you spit out your wood elf army.
I'm really interested in the idea that in the future we won't have so much stuff because we'll just recycle/reform our old stuff into our new stuff via tech like this.
Yeah, I've been periodically checking the state of the art on this for a decade now, and I suspect you may not be too far off. It's possible the second period might be shorter than the first, however.
