It’s going to happen someday. We’re going to win the world series someday. You know it. I know it. We all know it. And somewhere buried deep within all of us is the tiniest sliver of the joy that is that someday. And that joy is boundless. If it were a mountain it would stub it’s toe on Mount Everest. If it were an ocean, it would consider the Atlantic a puddle of rainwater. If it were a painting it would make the Sistine Chapel, the Mona Lisa, and all the works of all the greatest artists in all the great museums of the world look like the fingerpaints of a two year old. In its depth, breadth, and sheer beauty, the world has not seen its like. Perhaps that’s why it has been too long, because the world is terrified what might happen if that joy is released. Breaking the atom has nothing on this.

bq. And we’ve each got a little bit of that inside us so when we take the field Saturday night our world will be filled with joy. And should we lose, our world will be filled with joy cunningly disguised as anguish, fury, and utter disappointment but only for the moment. Once that moment has passed the crowd will rise as one and cheer for the team, for the joy we’ve had in watching them, and for the knowledge that someday it will be our day.

I've been wearing my Red Sox cap in to work instead of my chef's hat these past few days. Maybe it'll help.

I pity my infant niece, who's the product of a mixed marriage -- my brother married a girl who's perfect in every way EXCEPT that she's a Yankees fan.

That little sliver of joy that's the core of Red Sox faith is, in me, heavily surrounded by doubts -- but I *want* them to prove my doubts wrong. Just this once. Please.

As an A's fan, I feel pretty much just this way.

It's been an amazing run - four straight years, four game 5s. Every series has been hard fought - the A's haven't been outmatched a single time. Yet, the last three years, they've broken my heart, every time.

There's a little bit of fear that our window is closing - we'd be thrilled if our owners let us have a payroll of even half the Red Sox. There's no Manny Ramirez signing coming for us. We're doing a great job staying competitive in a uniquely difficult environment, but when Tejada leaves... when the contracts on Hudson/Zito/Mulder expire, after that... the Red Sox will be in the playoffs, and strong, for a few more years at least. This may be our last shot with this group.

But we've still got this shot, and I still have hope.

At least I have faith that, if the A's prevail tomorrow, we'll have the Red Sox Nation's fans, picking themselves up, and cheering for us to beat the Yankees.

Here's to a non-controversial game of excellent baseball tomorrow, and may the True Yankee Killers prevail!

I have to say... *if* the Sox win the World Series within my lifetime, it will be pretty sweet.

That said, I really feel that, no matter what, this season from the Sox has been a gift, no matter what the final result is. It has been, quite possibly, the most entertaining season of baseball I have experienced as a Red Sox fan.

Martinez vs. Zito... Ortiz & Ramirez perhaps coming out of their slumps?

I have a feeling that the next game is going to be special.
