Excellence is a core aspect of any good pulp game. In order to establish this for Huey Long's Men of Action, I'm going to steal a trick from San Angelo: City of Heroes and write down some top ten lists. Top ten doctors, top ten boxers, top ten research scientists, top ten aviators, top ten criminal masterminds, top ten archeologists, top ten diplomats... what else? Suggestions for more lists are welcome.

I'm thinking it'd make sense to share these with players as a means towards creating a shared conception of the world. Some entries will be "Unknown." Some of those will be known to me, but not to players. Not too many, though.

Top Ten Richest Men, Top Ten Strongest Men, Top Ten Most Beautiful Women, Top Ten Masters of Disguise, Top Ten Marksmen, Top Ten Occult Experts. I could do this all day!

What is the "top ten concept" as presented by San Angelo? Do you make up these lists as NPCs the players may meet?

This is mention #2. When are you running this game? And how will you fit it in around your Champions game?

San Angelo had a bunch of lists of top ten X in the city -- it was great for flavor. They put holes in the list for PCs, too. Nice stuff.

I thinkit's a great idea, and flashes me to a truly dorky flashback. Back in the Suicide Squad, one of th emain guys was Bronze Tiger, a martial Artist who had trained with Richard Dragon (and by inference, presumably JUDO MASTER) who had been the #1 martial artist in the DC universe and who had turned to villainy, though there was a lot of brainwashing going on.

He's fightign this guy over the course of an issue, and eventually he starts thinking. "Dammit, I can beat this guy. I'm the Bronze Tiger! I'm the deadliest marttal artist in the world!"

Fight goes on some more.

"Ok. Maybe best after Richard Dragon."

Fight goes on soem more.

"And in fairness, Batman did beat me once or twice."

Fight goes on some more. getting worse.

"Ok. I may need to consider the possibility of being #4."
