No highly esteemed deed is commemorated here.
Nothing valued is here.
This place is a message and part of a system of messages.
Pay attention to it!
Sending this message was important to us.
We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture."

The Romans were powerful, and we know they considered themselves powerful, but we wouldn't take a warning like this from Rome very seriously.

I'm just looking at the message "We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture." Because I think it the message represents something important to the communication, but I don't think the message is the best way to say it.

And when you think about it that way, are we right? Cause if, in 11,000 AD, we have developed good ways of dealing with radiation... well, all those monuments will look pretty dumb.

Date: 2004-12-03 09:10 pm (UTC)Maybe the right message is "Have you guys played Civilization? Well, we we're somewhere in between Nuclear Fission and Nuclear Fusion. If you guys are already on Alpha Centauri, here's our level 4 message for you, otherwise, we're smarter than you, and just stay out."
