So I had to send my laptop into Apple for repairs a month or so ago. My own fault: I dropped it. The next time I used the DVD drive, I noticed it wasn't working. OK; I called Apple up and said "Hey, this happened, I need to get it fixed." I kind of expected that they'd charge me for it, since chances are it broke when I dropped the laptop.

Nope. Since they didn't catch it the first time round, they decided it was their fault and fixed it for free. I dropped my laptop in a box on Monday of this week, it arrived at Apple on Tuesday, they fixed it and sent it out on the same day, and it's in my hands again on Wednesday. That's what I call rapid turnaround.

That's great to hear, since I'll be acquiring an Apple laptop this Christmas. And I can't fucking wait, unless you haven't noticed.

Compare this to Dell's customer service, which requires three forms of ID, a detailed knowledge of the Upanishads, and a scraping of skin off the nape of the neck before you can be given your first customer service.

Apple rocks. I had to send in my iBook last year for something, I forget what... keyboard replacement? Anyways, yeah, they turned the mother f'er around in like 2 days. No charge. Hells yeah.

Oh, and actual English speaking Americans when you call. None of this Calcutta follies bs.

Is it the same model DVD? I've heard of cases where the replacement was a significantly faster or more featureful model when they just didn't have older replacement parts.

Oddly, they do want to know what county you're in. But if you don't know, they'll tell you, which makes me wonder why they ask in the first place.
