Was terse, because I'm saddened beyond measure. Not shocked; I'd known he was ill, and somewhere inside I'd given up on ever reading more of his stuff. But his writing was terribly underrated; he was one of my favorite SF authors. And he didn't get to write half enough books.

Mourn.
