Stirling's Nantucket books, which are pretty good as alternate history gaming settings go, but I'm gonna go in a different Stirling direction: The Peshawar Lancers. The science and politics are horrendously unlikely but it's a great pulp setting if you can ignore that.

Date: 2005-03-21 06:28 am (UTC)While I will admit that there were some cute details in Peshawar Lancers, overall I'm in agreement with you. Neither the story nor the alternate history really grabbed me. (The extensive appendices didn't convince, either, though they did give an idea of the rationale behind the novel.)
