Li asks, "What alternate-historical setting would you most like to play in, and why?" She mentions S. M. Stirling's Nantucket books, which are pretty good as alternate history gaming settings go, but I'm gonna go in a different Stirling direction: The Peshawar Lancers. The science and politics are horrendously unlikely but it's a great pulp setting if you can ignore that.

I couldn't even start the actual novel portion of Pesawar Lancers because I read the appendices first and was completely gobsmacked by the utter ridiculousness of the setting- and I couldn't call it pulp because the author took himself a bit too seriously. Don't try to convince me it could happen, just run with it and revel in the insanity and I could come along for the ride.

Maybe I'll try picking it up again sometime...
