This one's for Jeff.

By last count, I had 528 DVDs -- this includes TV shows and some wrestling, though. So maybe around 475 if you only count movies. A relatively small number of those are in a sell stack.

The last film I bought was The Life Aquatic, in the Criterion 2 disc edition. It looks like another great Criterion production.

The last film I watched was Serenity; it's been an off-month for me.

Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me... let's see. Brazil, which is the movie that taught me that there was life beyond the summer blockbuster; Days of Being Wild, which was my first Wong Kai Wai movie; Magnolia, which makes me cry; Ronin, the most underrated Hollywood action movie of the last 20 years; and Crash, which is probably my favorite Cronenberg movie.

I'm not going to tag anyone, but pick this up if you'd like.

Crash wigs me out, I vastly prefer Videodrome (which is upsetting too, I admit) and most especially eXistenZ from Cronenberg.

A coworker of mine is a big Cronenberg fan, he's disappointed in things like Spider and vastly prefers the Videodrome/The Fly/Crash trio.

Ronin, I agree, somehow got lost in the shuffle. How can you not like this movie if you like action pictures??

As far as DVD's, I think I have somewhere around 120. I lost the list I was making with my HD crash.

The last movie i saw in a theater: Hitchhiker's Guide
The last movie I purchased: Twelve Monkeys

Might I suggest Unleashed or Crash to turn the month around. I was very concerned about Unleashed because the premise appeared to be the most racist thing I had encountered in a very long time. Well, despite that, I was totally won over and charmed, by this live action, adult version of Lilo and Stitch. And the action sequences are amazing.

And Crash is an emotional rollercoster, but amazing. I need to write a review, but have been feeling lazy.

Amen. I showed that to Melinda last weekend when we were both under the weather and was struck again by how elegant it is, how cool and intelligent and understated.

Plus, the car chases rock. I distinctly recall sitting in the theater during the big highway sequence in Matrix 2 (you know, the one where Lawrence Fishburne turns into a Vampire LARPer?) and thinking "Someone saw Ronin. Twice."

In theory, I really like David Cronenberg films... In practice, I thought Crash was so poor, I really just wanted my 2 hours back. eXistenZ was alright, but I thought 13th Floor was better as far as that type of movie goes. FWIW, the last film I bought in a store was Spider. Haven't watched it yet.
Last films I bought were Night Watch and Ong-Bak.

Brazil totally freaked me out. I keep telling [livejournal.com profile] frutbat (who loves Clockwork Orange) that he should see Brazil. Sadly, he keeps saying that he'll watch it with me anytime I'm ready, and I'm just so not ready to see it again...
