The MacArthur Fellows always cheer me up, as much for the people I don't recognize as for those I do. It must be such a neat surprise to be named.

And look! David Macaulay. I love his books. Josiah McElheny! I don't know you but you're not Dale Chihuly. Terence Tao, way to be smart. Luis von Ahn, thanks for inventing CAPTCHA. I love that people invent stuff that seems obvious afterwards. And John Zorn, yeah, there's a lot right about that.

You know why Wikipedia kind of sucks sometimes? We've had a whole year to write about the 2005 recipients, but only 6 out of 25 of them have bios. S'up with that, Internet?

Look pal, we've got a *lot* of ground to cover regarding the life of Goku from Dragonball Z. We don't have the time for these nobodies -- most of whom have never entered a martial arts tournament in their life.

I mean really! Priorities people!

McElheny *rocks*. I saw him speak at the opening of the Wexner Center's new exhibition _Shiny_ which he has pieces in, as well as last year's Part Object/Part Sculpture about the blur between the objet d'art and what we more usually think of as sculpture which premiered his awesome chandelier An End to Modernity (a scale mode of the big bang, in terms of time, in metal and glass and a commentary on the Metropolitan Opera chandeliers also based on the big bang but done in the '60s and without the help of The Ohio State University department of Astronomy); at the Shiny premier the curator said she was going to make him the "house wine" of the Wexner Center and bring him out every fal.

I think the record also reflects what a ginormous John Zorn fan I am.

David Macaulay is awesome...I really need to track down and get all his books as part of Operation: Retrobooks (my effort to collect together all my favorite books as a kid)

Me too! I thought "Cathedral" was the coolest thing EVER. Still do, really.
