DKM Surfaces
May. 28th, 2007 01:08 pmFrom his new blog:
In any event, AI War is the only thing I’ll be working on this summer, and once it’s clean, I’m going to roll into the concluding sequel — it’s been years since I’ve written SF, but I am going to publish AI War and its sequel, Crystal Wind, before the people who care about it succumb to Alzheimers.
But, yeah. He was gonna turn in AI War to Bantam in 1995. And he was gonna animate The Long Run in 1998 — “the pilot will happen.” Plans, I suppose, sometimes fall through.
There’s this weird dichotomy, too. DKM says, “Now … the book is still under contract to Bantam. I doubt they want it, but who knows?” Bantam said, back in 1998, “Mr. Moran has bought back the rights to his Players: The Ai Wars and left Bantam.”
So take it all for what it’s worth. It’s also the case that the guy went blind in one eye, and I can see how that would blow out one’s ability to write. I wouldn’t criticize him for not finishing the books; I’m just suspicious of his ability to self-evaluate the chances that they’ll get done.

Date: 2007-05-28 07:05 pm (UTC)I suspect that particular problem is gonna get fixed. Nightshade is finding that it's profitable to reprint a ton of great old Glen Cook stuff, not to mention the Manly Wade Wellman reprints. There's undoubtedly a business model there, even if it's one the bigger publishers can't use for some reason.
And my fingers are crossed. I finished rereading the Continuing Time books this morning; started a couple of weeks ago, unrelated to this news. I'd love more.

Date: 2007-05-28 07:23 pm (UTC)I haven't read the CT books for several years, but last time I did (this millenium, I think) I still enjoyed them a lot. I'd love more, too. I'd love all of them. *sigh* :)

I'm starting to believe he'll have something for us eventually; the question now is, does he still have that spark he had back in the day?

Date: 2007-05-30 01:48 am (UTC)Unfortunately, I was one of those poor suckers who missed his books the first time and only got to read part of the series by borrowing it from a roommate. Every time I'm in a used bookstore, I look in vain for his stuff and always fail to find it.
