Faith and Forgiveness

The Rick Warren who's currently saying that he believes John McCain would never have cheated and listened in on Obama's interview is the same Rick Warren who means it when he calls Obama a patriot and a friend; he's the same guy who told protesters to go away when they objected to Obama's appearance at his church in 2006.

You get what you get, and in this case you get a religious man who believes in trusting humans on both sides of the aisle. I can't find it in me to complain about that.

Agreed. It's refreshing to see at least one powerful evangelical minister who isn't a wholehearted partisan shill, and actually places stock in other social issues like poverty and the environment. I still don't agree with him on so many other issues... and fanatical, fundamental devotion to *anything* scares me... but hey, he stands head and shoulders over 'religious' leaders like Dobson, et. al.

I guess if 20,000 people are going to pile into a megachurch to listen to someone bloviate, it might as well be someone who isn't hate filled and bitter.

I read something recently which said that the new generation (in their 20s and 30s) of evangelicals/fundamentalists are turning away from the "atheists/Muslims/modern culture is killing Christianity" and are getting more into helping the community, sick, poor, etc... y'know, things Jesus would've probably done.

This was exemplified last weekend when Mike Huckabee, Tony Perkins and Lou Engle tried to hold a "two minutes of hate" rally in DC's mall, but few people showed up.
