From RedState's action alert email to me today:

There are troubling whispers in Washington that John McCain might soon endorse the Gang of 16 Energy Proposal. It would be a terrible mistake for John McCain to sign on to this plan. Endorsing this plan would be the policy equivalent of picking a pro-abortion running mate.

Link mine, as reference if you don't know what the proposal is. I'll also note this bit of suggested strategy. Obama hasn't signed on as a co-sponsor, but he's said he supports it.

That assumes that Barack (I am on a first name basis with him now you see) is willing to do something so bold as to publicly come out strongly in favor of the legislation.

Which just goes to show how for gone the Republican base is. The bill would allow more drilling, but apparently it's not enough because it doesn't open up every square inch of land to drilling. Also, being that it's a compromise bill, it pours money into communist treehugging terror-loving DFH endeavors, such as renewable energy.

As we all know, land that isn't being exploited for human purposes is wasted land, and anyone who supports the wasting of land loves terrorism.

It is not actually quite as mad as it seems, I think -- my understanding is that if nothing happens, the moratorium on offshore drilling ends in a couple of months. So signing off on an agreement that limits offshore drilling in any way represents accepting less than they could get if they just sat it out.
