GnR concerts were among some of the best I've ever seen. When Axl wasn't having a hissy fit, he was one of the best frontmen ever. But I just don't know how I feel about an entirely different band behind him... it's odd.
I only saw them once, when they toured with Metallica. They were good for the songs they did, but their presentation (getting ready between songs and such) was pretty bad. And their encore was a bait and switch. This was the Use Your Illusion tour, and they had a sign flashing Guns N Roses sign rise up, starting the chant from the crowd as it flashed each piece, and we all got psyched for "Get In The Ring". Then......they played some other song, I don't even remember what it was. I remember thinking at that time that it was a purely bull$h!t move, and while was happy to have heard the songs I did, was unhappy with that part of the concert, especially since they were the closing act.
(I would say about 1/3 of the people left after Metallica who had put on an awesome show. Hetfield even played guitar for the final encore which drove the crowd f***ing insane since he hadn't played the whole show because of his burned arm. I am still wondering if that was the first time he played for a crowd or if he had played earlier shows' encores)
I saw 'em in Iowa once, with Brian May opening (not a good opening act, alas). They were awesome, and they did that song from Buckaroo Banzai, so I was very happy.
