12:16: And that's a victory speech. Major awesome. Calling out to Republicans and asking for their help is a big win. Biden! You guys have a lot of work ahead of you, but I think it might just go pretty well.

Jesse Jackson crying. I can't even begin to imagine what this must feel like for him.

That'll be enough from me for tonight, I think. Here's to history. I'll worry about the West Coast ballot results in the morning.

11:56: Finished one bag of Smartfood, one bag of potato chips, and a tasty tasty piece of homemade chocolate sheet cake. Small bags, not big bags. And a lot of booze.

11:25: McCain gives about the best concession speech he can. He's going to go down in history as a tragic figure. Not noble, I don't think, but tragic. It must be incredibly awful for him, realizing that he could have changed the world four years ago by accepting a good man's invitation, and realizing that he passed that up for a mirage.

11:10: AP calls Florida for Obama. The MSNBC anchors aren't even trying to be unbiased, and bless them for it. Maddow: "It's kind of worth crying about." And the crowds agree with her.

11:07: Virginia for Obama (MSNBC). I note this for motherfucking inebriated posterity.

11:00: MSNBC calls California, Washington, Oregon, and Hawaii for Obama. That's it.

10:54: Fox calls Virginia for Obama in a fit of pique and desire to scoop other networks.

10:47: We're possibly seeing Role Models when it opens. Also staying up till Obama's victory speech. Or Palin's concession speech.

... what, isn't Palin the one running?

Meanwhile, Maddow puts the screws to Pat Buchanan.

10:41: Chuck Todd is a bit punchy. He just explained that Midwestern counties were nice and square, and he sounded like he was describing a preferred sexual partner.

10:33: John Murtha is leading in Pennsylvania. This doesn't make me happy per se, since he's kind of an ass, but since RedState and The Corner were all excited about Murtha losing I get some pleasure here.

McCain wins South Dakota.

10:26: MSNBC says "Bryant was right about the Cuban-American vote." Not in those words, but you could tell what they meant.

10:21: Dog racing is no more in Massachusetts, as per [livejournal.com profile] editswlonghair. Grant Park is looking very crowded. The Rocky Mountain News called Colorado for Obama, which seems a bit premature but hey!

I am pretty drunk. Control-Z is my friend.

10:11: Mississippi for McCain! But Amendment 48 in Colorado, which was an anti-abortion amendment, has failed. Obama is creeping ahead in Virginia.

10:01: Iowa for Obama. Utah for McCain. No surprises, no change in projected outcome. You have like an hour to vote for Darcy Burner in Washington, an hour to vote against Prop 8 in California, and so on.

Florida is too close to call, but if they're waiting for Miami results? Obama will win it. Miami is usually close because of the Cuban-American vote, and that's changed this time around. Check out District 25 in Florida, which is pretty damned close -- Diaz-Balart is part of the Republican Cuban-American machine, and if the race is within five points, it shows Cuban-Americans will vote for a Democrat this time around.

9:55: Texas for McCain! We're DOOOOOMED! Christopher Shays just lost in Connecticut, so there are no Republicans from New England in the House of Representatives.

Whoa. I just realized that Massachusetts decriminalized marijuana. That's... wild.

9:47: Just for [livejournal.com profile] my_tallest: the Globe called it for Sonia Chang-Diaz. Yay!

The MSNBC people have stopped pretending. Chuck Todd's map was apparently more convincing than Olbermann's napkin math.

9:39: West Virginia for McCain. Tom Udall wins a Senate seat in New Mexico, which I think is four pickups if you count North Carolina, which I don't recall seeing but I coulda missed it. Mitch McConnell holds in Kentucky. I don't think we're getting 60 seats in the Senate this time around.

Whoops, Olbermann just stopped pretending that Obama hasn't won. Maddow is trying to save him, but there's no stopping the guy. David Gregory: "CUT IT OUT, KEITH, THE WEST IS STILL VOTING." Keith fails to interpret David's subtle hints.

9:34: Maddow mocks Republicans openly. Matthews helps her. The Globe calls it for yes on Prop 2!

Did I mention that Obama just won the election?

9:31: Louisiana for McCain. New Mexico for Obama. The MSNBC guys are trying to avoid calling it, and doing a fine professional job. North Dakota for McCain.

9:23: Chris Matthews is still a jerk. The Boston Globe projects Proposition 1 (repeal income tax) as failing with 20% of the vote in. Props 2 and 3 are still pending, but yes is leading in both cases. I was a bit worried about Prop 1, given the history of tax rebellion in Massachusetts. (Consider Howie Carr and Barbara Anderson and their role in defeating Dukakis in '88.)

Whoops, and MSNBC calls Ohio for Obama, which puts the election very close to being over.

9:05: OK, about the DeLay thing. Matthews asked who'd be more powerful, Obama or Pelosi, and DeLay said it'd be Pelosi. He's pushing that again right now, in fact. Maddow points out that Pelosi and Obama are allies and sympatico. The idea for DeLay is to make Pelosi a demon.

But there's a good chance that Obama is going to make Rahm Emanuel his chief of staff. Rahm is one of the powers in the House at the moment; making him chief of staff takes a smart politician out of the House and puts him in Obama's corner. If there were corners. I am not too worried about the House in an Obama administration.

And Arkansas has gone for McCain.

9:00: Kansas goes to McCain. Michigan and New York and Minnesota and Wisconsin and Rhode Island go to Obama. North Dakota goes to McCain, no big surprise. So does Wyoming. All as expected. Also, very early, Prop 1 is losing in MA and Props 2 and 43 are winning.

... Arizona is too close to call? That's interesting.

8:54: Chris Matthews laying into Tom DeLay is pretty sweet. Chris made Tom admit that Nancy Pelosi will be more powerful than he was. Then again, he's also giving Tom an opening to mock Obama, but that's OK -- when the expectations are unfulfilled, it'll be that much better.

Florida and Indiana are still nice and close.

8:36: Georgia and Alabama for McCain. Obama won't get 400 electoral votes, but I didn't think he would.

8:25: Some guy on DailyKos has a diary with over 1,000 Obama songs in it. But no "Donuts and Bacon"? That's unacceptable; I've corrected his error politely. Also, Obama is looking good in North Carolina.

8:16: Shaheen beats Sununu; that's one of our needed Senate pickups. 2 so far, but none of the close ones. The Musgrove/Wicker race is stupid close. Fingers crossed.

8:06: Maddow notes that Obama hasn't won any Bush states yet. Why you harsh my buzz, lady?

8:01: MSNBC calls Pennsylvania for Obama. To call it that early, the exit polls must be absolutely clear. New Jersey to Obama, Massachusetts to Obama, Illinois to Obama of course, Tennessee to McCain, Maryland to Obama, Oklahoma to McCain, Connecticut to Obama, New Hampshire to Obama. That last is more clear exit polls. Landslide is happening. And Maine to Obama -- all 4 votes. Delaware and DC to Obama.

7:46: South Carolina goes for McCain, as predicted. Olbermann reports that exit polls in Indiana show 33% of the people who voted for Mitch Daniels, the Republican governor, also voted for Obama.

7:37: Snuck out to get milk so [livejournal.com profile] michele_blue could make cake. Nate Silver thinks early Indiana results are promising. If those aren't complete results from the counties, it doesn't mean too much.

7:12: Vermont in for Obama, Kentucky in for McCain. No surprise. Kos is making noise about Virginia going for Obama, but I think he's reading too much into Wilder's Warner's Senate win, which has been a sure thing forever.
