Bill Simmons is kind of an embarrassing fellow Boston sports fan. I mean, this guy writes for the national media and there is just no question about his bias. He is not a reliable reporter. People point at him and go "Hey, so is that the typical Boston sports fan?"

Yeah, well. Yes. That's about how emotional I get about my teams.

Anyway, so he just wrote a teary column about a non-sports subject, so if you haven't ever been able to figure his appeal out, you could read that. Or possibly I'm just a sap for sad pet stories. That's a sad pet story if there ever was one.

Wah.

This is why I didn't even read the article - I started getting teary at just your comment. :P

What really got to me was his son's reaction, especially the last paragraph.

I started to read it, but got two sentences in and stopped. I know I'll just bawl, cause animal stuff always makes me bawl. You should have seen me during and after 'Marley and Me'. It was a great story overall, but also hit really close to home what with Ezra and all. But I'm sure it's a really great, touching story! :P

Thankfully, he's pretty quick to point out that he doesn't even try to be a 'reporter' in any journalistic sense of the word, just a columnist/blogger. And he obviously embraces his bias, as opposed to trying to pretend it doesn't exist.

Very moving column, regardless.
