Help Haiti, Get RPGs
Jan. 20th, 2010 08:21 amOn the off chance you haven't seen this, Drive Thru RPG has a bundle deal in which you donate $20 to Haiti and in return you get a thousand bucks worth of RPG PDFs. There's fiction from Justin Achilli. There's 4e stuff. There's old school D&D stuff. There're indie games. There's a book full of hand-drawn dungeons. There's weird indie stuff. There're two wrestling RPGs. There are complete games. There's the Serenity RPG.
I mean... wow.
I mean... wow.

Date: 2010-01-20 06:56 pm (UTC)I'm not entirely sure I even want any of them (I already own the Serenity RPG), but still, $20 donation is worth doing anyway, and if I do like even one of them, it's a huge win.

Date: 2010-01-20 07:19 pm (UTC)Chronica Feudalis is an interesting semi-narrative medieval game with a cute gimmick; it's a "lost RPG" from the actual era. Written by a monk.
Cortex System is the house system for the Weis', whose RPGs include Serenity, so it's a nice way to find out if you like the system. (Which you have already, of course.)
The Dragonshire sets are awesome introductions to papercrafting; now it's free to try. Fat Dragon also sent in the Copper Dragon tiles, which are quite nice if you like dungeon tiles.
Damnation Decade is a completely awesome satirical D20 game set in the milieu of 70s apocalyptic movies.
Demimonde is Justin Achilli's self-published novel. I think it has vampires in it.
Diana: Warrior Princess is Marcus Rowland's very funny RPG set in a mythologized, poorly remembered version of our world. Princess Diana has been melded with Xena; that sort of thing.
Dork Covenant is the first Dork Tower comic collection. Also funny.
Fantastic Maps: The Dragon’s Lair rocks -- it's a really pretty battlemap. Jonathan Roberts does lovely cartography.
Also hot in the maps category: For the Love of Dungeons, which is a book full of small handdrawn dungeons with space for comments on each page. I am going to get a lot of use out of this.
Adamant Entertainment chipped in with two Savage Worlds books -- MARS, which is all about the planetary romance, and Thrilling Adventures, which is their pulp line. Their stuff can be a bit dry but I'm eager to get at the pulp material for Savage Worlds.
No Dignity in Death: The Three Brides is an old-school D&D module from James Raggi, who does creepy Nordic atmospheric material. I loved his Death Frost Doom and I hope to also like this. More for inspiration than for use.
Nevermeet Press' Portrait of a Villain – The Desire has promise; Nevermeet Press is a bunch of bloggers I like who decided to do an RPG company. I think this was their first release. Looking forward to reading it.
Reign Of Discordia has gotten good reviews as a space opera setting.
Shrouded Agendas: The Purifiers is from the Evil Hat guys and ought to be useful for something.
Summerland Revised and Expanded Edition is an awesome post-apocalyptic urban fantasy kind of thing. I hear the setting is more interesting than the system, but I'm curious anyhow. Indie-oriented.
The Kerberos Club is awesome. Weird Victorian superheroes. You need Wild Talents to use it as is ($10 for the Explorers Edition), but it'd be trivial to convert to any superhero system.
3:16 is the currently hot indie game in which you play Starship Troopers. I am curious about it.
eCollapse is another Greg Stolze production. Didn't get much press for some reason. I want to say it uses Wild Talents but also has its own system? Worth checking out, anyhow.
The Trail of Cthulhu Players Guide isn't a complete game, I don't think, but hopefully would give a new player an idea of what GUMSHOE is all about. Also maybe good generally for people doing Cthulhu stuff? I dunno, I haven't looked at the table of contents.
So there're about 20 things that seem worth a more extended look, and I'm sure I missed some gems.

Date: 2010-01-20 09:31 pm (UTC)Piledrivers & Powerbombs has gotten some seriously kick-ass reviews, I'm totally trying it.
Summerland has a really neat concept, though the execution is a little wonky at times. Worth a good look.
3:16 is a love it or hate it kinda game. Personally, I love it. It's deceptively story-driven for a game with two stats and lots of carnage. Definitely worth it.
I have heard cool things about Demimonde, as well.
