For the sports remedial, can you explain what it means? The wins/losses can't possibly be games played, can it? What does post season have to do with anything?

Wins/losses is games played, yep -- major league baseball has a 162 game season. Remaining is, thusly, games remaining.

Baseball Prospectus does some math to figure out the chances that each team will a) win the division outright, or b) win the wild card. That's the percentages. Either will get you into the playoffs, which is what I mean by "post season."
