It’s document time in the ongoing White Wolf v. Sony saga. First off, here’s Mike Tinney’s deposition as described here. At no extra charge, we’ll include Andrew Zaffron’s declaration. It covers more or less the same ground as did Mike Tinney, with a little additional commentary. Paragraph 8 is amusing.

Moving on to new material, we have declarations from Len Wiseman and Kevin Grevioux, two of the three guys who wrote the screenplay. (And of course Wiseman directed it.) Both note explicitly that “I had never heard of any of the Plaintiffs’ works before early in 2003, after the movie Underworld had been shot.”

I should grab Danny McBride’s declaration — he’s the other screenwriter — and I will at some point, but I don’t expect it to much differ. Thanks to Chris S. for hosting these PDFs.

I'm not terribly surprised no one over at Sony, including the people who wrote the movie, has never heard of a niche product like Vampire.

Which, contrary to the opinion of the raving geeks, really is a small, low circulation niche product.

You're actually mistaken - while the people who wrote the movie are claiming to have never heard of White Wolf or anything they've put out, Sony as a whole simply cannot make this claim - since they announced they'd partnered with White Wolf over 18 months ago to make d20 tabletop rules for Everquest. (Also, WW's VtM-Bloodlines game is due out next year for Sony's Playstation2. I'm sure Sony noticed when the first VtM PC game outsold certain Sony PC games in 2000, too.)

Sony Interactive has heard of White Wolf. That does not necessarily mean that any other divisions of Sony, including the picture distrubition wing, has ever heard of White Wolf. In fact, Sony is so big, it's a company that his literally sued itself over copyright infringement and distribution of MP3s. It's so big, it has different divisions on different planets. One person at Sony or one wing of management at Sony means nothing to a different part of the company.

So again, no surprise that someone independant who was funded by Sony Pictures and distributed via Sony has never heard of White Wolf. Sony Pictures has nothing to do with Sony Interactive, not even when they have a license that is an in-company brand.

Link to the Zaffron declaration appears to be broked.
