The RNC wants MoveOn to apologize for letting an ad comparing Bush to Hitler slip into their contest.

Enh. I don’t particularly think MoveOn needs to apologize; they can if they want to, and people can form whatever opinion they care to form as a result of that decision. The only person who has the right to ask for an apology here is Bush. Last time I heard, he was a big boy, and surely doesn’t need us to act on his behalf. After all, cowboys do their own work.

I also don’t think that the RNC needs to do any kind of equal opportunity witchhunt. They can focus on liberals who compare conservatives to Hitler, and the DNC can focus on conservatives who compare liberals to Hitler. That’s fair enough.

However, the irony of this cartoon in conjunction with this op ed is pretty great.

The RNC keeps trying to imply that MoveOn.org sponsored the ads or commissioned them, which irritates me. (Not that it's all that difficult to irritate me, I admit.) The two ads comparing Bush to Hitler that were posted (by individuals) got really low marks from the voters and have been removed from MoveOn.org's site. If they're available at all on the net, it's through the RNC.

And yes, there's something awfully ironic about the RNC screaming like a stuck pig over this, while referring to Dean as 'Herr Howie'.

the cartoon is just brilliant. But the op ed piece is inarticulate, enough so to weaken your point.

bonus irony

see, it's the bonus irony that makes Doonesbury what it is. Skewer both sides, perhaps at different subtlety levels. And it's why I thought that strip was so great. Whereas the New York Post op ed, typically for the Post, didn't have anything more ironic than an Alanis Morrissette song.

Man, this is getting so out of control. I was reading through various political blogs yesterday at work, and both sides of the fence can't seem to get over the following generalizations:

"All conservatives think that anyone who criticizes America is a traitor."

"All liberals think that anyone who admires America is a fascist."

I mean, heck, I'm way to the left, but even I have to call time-out on this one. Such sweeping generalizations! I swear I see them more than I even see members of their respective sides stating these things their alleged to say.

Although I must say, I hate the cartoon, but only because it paints liberals are being complete hypocrites. Sure, some liberals are hypocrites. But so are some conservatives. I'd have more respect for the whole strip (and yes, I do read it regularly) if he played both sides weaknesses, instead of just the Right's.

Anywho, long post. Wanna hear my thoughts on wearing red after Christmas? ;)
