You don’t really need to go any further than the first paragraph of this story (via Talking Points Memo) to get pissed off:

Republican staff members of the US Senate Judiciary Commitee infiltrated opposition computer files for a year, monitoring secret strategy memos and periodically passing on copies to the media, Senate officials told The Globe.

Apparently the Republicans have forgotten Watergate. Stealing memos, as it turns out, is wrong.

Pried

You notice how careful the Globe was about not accusing anyone of spying, but still hinted at it... to the point of using the difficult work "pried" in the article subtitle. Sounds like "spyed" but keeps the AP's Secret Republican Masters from using their Mystical Secret Story Zap-Beam.

OK, I'm not that paranoid about the media. And this is one of those situations where the barn door was left open, so shame on the Democrats, too.

Still, "pried"-- awful word choice.

From the article:
They said that in the summer of 2002, their computer technician informed his Democratic counterpart of the glitch, but Democrats did nothing to fix the problem.

Translated: "You left your window open and didn't close it after we whispered that it was open while your back was turned, so we weren't doing anything wrong by climbing in and going through your stuff."
