"What came first? The music, or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos. Some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery, and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable, or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"

The clock ticks over, and I don't want to go to sleep, so it's time to hover over my DVDs. One of these will fit my mood; oh yes. I have that kind of variety. Tonight... let's see... High Fidelity.

Mostly for the music. The cynicism and hope swirl gets me too; there's something about the bitter protagonist who lives a life saturated with the music he holds so dear that resonates with me. He's got something vitally important all around him, but it doesn't make him happy. Maybe it's just that music is too big for him. He can't live up to the things it makes him feel.

Also, Jack Black apotheosizes in this movie, and that's always good.
