bryantIf I wonder whether the post-finish celebration for the Rock/Hogan match was planned or ad-libbed?
I know, I know, but it was pretty clear J. R. had no idea what to say when the crowd started popping for Hogan. There's been no buildup at all to the idea of a Hogan turn. And the NWO segment right before the match makes no sense at all if you assume the face turn was planned -- since the NWO didn't actually come out and get involved, as promised. What's worse, the NWO run-in post match was a total fiasco. Which, if it were preplanned, would mean that Vince planned Scott Hall's loss (with Austin beating down both Hall and Nash), followed by Hogan's loss, followed by the NWO getting beaten down yet again.
On the other hand, if Vince was sitting backstage frantically calling an audible for the handshake and an attempted beatdown by the NWO to solidify the unexpected Hogan turn, well, it all makes more sense. Assume the NWO was supposed to get heat back by beating down Rock after the match. It flows fairly well, and if the crowd hadn't decided to turn Hogan it would have come off nicely.
Or maybe I'm just a mark. But man, that was a weird sequence.
