This scenario is not going to happen, because if McCain was going to take a shot at Bush he's had plenty of opportunities to do it already. It's a /great/ piece. This is officially my favorite piece of election speculation -- it's even better than "what happens if Rehnquist steps down and Bush makes a recess appointment."

The shaft was actually being retrofitted into one of those trapdoors evil people use to dispose of visitors. But the project was unionized, so...
