I'm kind of thinking that the Sacred Pentacle of 80s Rock is made up of U2, REM, X, Husker Du, and Metallica. The Arena, the Alternative, the Punk, the Hardcore, and the Metal. But everyone flirts with everyone.

I'd swap out Dead Kennedys for Husker Du for your Hardcore and say you've got it spot on.

Or maybe Black Flag. Yeah, I think I like that better.

I was about to say that, myself.

Unrelated, but is that "The Girl, the Gold Watch and Everything" fanart Bryant is sporting?

That's what I thought, too!

Turns out it's After Hours, though.

Screw pentacles. What this needs is a SIX PACK!

Tough call. DK gives you the Jello Biafra political edge (what an truly odd and frightening troika of lefty politics that is: Bono-Stipe-Biafra!), but Rollins is def. better known and he pops up in the strangest places in the cultural zeitgeist. Either way is a good call.

I'd also like to make an argument for Anthrax as the metal band, if only to give you the crossover tendrils into rap and hip hop.

Hmmmm. I like Anthrax a lot, but Metallica has survived the test time better. Tough call.
