Credit where credit is due on tsunami relief: Bush is sending an aircraft carrier and working closely with several nations in the region on relief efforts. Also, as expected, there will be future monetary support as the U.S. Agency for International Development requests additional funds.

I still think it'd be a good gesture to cancel the inauguration and redirect those funds, but that's me.

Did we actually declare war at some point? I thought this was another police action.

That pesky separation of powers thing ... it would be so much easier if we were just a dictatorship and didn't have to worry about the stupid Constitution and its rules about war!

(Mind goes riffing off with Darth Rove showing up on the Death Carrier during the discussion of Emperor Bush having dissolved the Senate.)

Oh, those horses left the barn decades ago... I very much doubt Congress will ever again declare war 'the good old fashioned way' in this republic. Just the inertia of conventional wisdom/business as usual has ceded that power to the executive branch.

Yeah, the super-luxe inauguration seems in really bad taste when soldiers are dying. Another proof that the Republicans don't take the idea that we are at war seriously.
