I say "Well, I think I'm going to see Constantine after all." And you say, "What? That's stupid. Keanu, and Los Angeles instead of London, and dude." And I say, "Well."

Then the New York Times says, "How difficult is it to play a mythic figure like Gabriel as opposed to, say, a soccer mom?" And Tilda Swinton says "They're exactly the same, because no one you play is 'real.' Every character is a construct, even if you're playing a suburban mother. You're looking for a construct in the way you look and talk, and you have either the mythic information about Gabriel, or what we know about suburban mothers, and then you just try to make it real. It's exactly the same. So, you start with what we know about Gabriel as God's messenger."

The picture looks something like this:

Tilda Swinton as Gabriel

It goes a long way to unconvince me from taking a pass.

(You could also read Kip on the matter, who says basically the same thing, which is not surprising since I stole it all from him anyhow.)

I don't hate Keanu, I never read Hellblazer (not anything resembling regularly anyway), and Tilda Swinton in a gender-ambiguous role? Sold.

*sigh* Great picture. Fascinating interview. I want the movie redone staring *her*, with Keanu shuffled off to background somewhere.

Will be interested to see your reaction.

Tilda Swinton is HOTT. Tilda Swinton as a fiery, evil angel? That gets into levels of hot which cannot be comprehended on the mortal plane.

It has been ages since I've gone out to a big studio movie, but Constantine is on my must see list because of Tilda Swinton.

Plus, these are the kinds of movies that Keanu Reeves, master thespian, appears to do well.

Now, I'm not holding my breath that it will be good, but it should be interesting.

I read the NY Times piece, too, soon as I saw that beauty staring at me from the front of the section. I'm so blessed to hold in my hot little had a passs for the sneak preview on Tuesday :) I might suck... a lot... but it'll be pretty and I can make fun of Rachel Weisz' terrible English accent.

Sadly, I talked with the scriptwriter a while back. That conversation convinced me that the only way someone would get me into the theater to see this movie would involve battleship chains, Tesla's death ray, and enough free popcorn to choke a megatherium. I remain relentlessly boggled that Hollywood consistently seeks out licenses because they are fresh and unique, and then systematically wrings all of the fresh and unique elements out of them in order to make them "mainstream".

Then again, I boggle easily.
