This struck me as just a stupid loudmouth.

This made me relieved that the people getting violent are ineffectual.

This has me worried. I'm not sure why; perhaps it's that the third time is a charm, or perhaps it's that Hal Turner has an audience. Maybe it's because Jeb Bush nearly sent armed men in. Hopefully it's just a publicity stunt to boost Turner's ratings; hopefully none of his listeners take it as an indication that they should join him.

James Lileks thinks we should keep Terri alive because Christopher Pike was a hero. That has nothing to do with the above, but I've spent all week staring at it while I try to avoid Schiavo posts. Now that I've finally made one, I figured I'd shoehorn it in.

Mostly, at this point, I feel sorry for her parents. People keep lying to them. It sucks.

Two of the people who keep lying to Terri Schiavo's parents are themselves. I'm not like whichever liberal blogger lost all his sympathy for them when they brought him in, but I am less sympathetic to them over it than I was before.

As for Lileks, I read that train wreck of a column and wondered what Star Trek episode he'd seen, because the one I remember that features Christopher Pike was about Spock helping his friend fulfill his dying wish.

Just about ever Lileks column I've ever been linked to is a trainwreck. I presume he has some less stupid ones that don't get linked to, but I'm sure not going to bother to look.

Apparently, Lileks had Teh Funni[tm] until the 9/11 Brain Eater got him.

I bet if you searched news archives from - what was it, '98? - you'd find identical quotes related to Elian Gonzales. The problem this time is that the religious wackos instead of the Freedom Wackos are involved.

Someone should point out to him that Captain Pike could still communicate.

(by the way, I tried to post to MT but got a 403 error... check your server log if you're not already aware of the issue...

Joe Scarborough (MSNBC) says that he thinks allowing her to starve is cruel.

I agree completely. However, I believe that Dr. Kervorkian (or any equivalent) should be allowed to help her find a quicker and easier path. Somehow, I don't think this is what dear old Joe has in mind.

Someone whose cerebral cortex is pudding is hardly going to suffer over starvation. She might not be able to suffer, period.

Nonetheless, the general American (or, at least, govermental) aversion to euthanasia needs to be turned around.

Did you switch the first two links by mistake?

I find the first link rather disturbing, actually - that someone would consider paying contract killers to kill Michael Schaivo over this is scary. That is a serious death threat, and while I'm glad that this person was arrested, I doubt he's alone. (if the story is accurate, this guy was willing to pay $250,000 which is far, far beyond what is generally charged for people who walk around without bodyguards)

The second link was about an idiot trying to rob a gun store with a box-cutter. I am reminded of a scene from Indiana Jones about the relative strengths of guns and edged weapons.
