Tacitus, when all is said and done, is honest. Do I disagree with him? Lots. Do I respect his integrity? Generally, yeah. He's not perfect. Neither am I. Who is?

The world needs more Republicans like him and John Cole, and more Democrats who can tell the difference between John Cole and John Derbyshire.

True enough -- though I believe I don't know any Democrat who doesn't recognize the difference between Cole and Derbyshire. I've seen several approving links to balloon-juice on both Kos and Atrios, and I don't think one gets much more partisan than that...

Being as superficial as I am, I tend to judge people by the company they keep. And the comments people make in reply to that post? They make me want to vomit.

I disagree with the guy pretty passionately about a ton of things. But part of what I like is that he's got the guts to piss off all his commenters.

There's a cynical side to this as well, too, right? The Eleventh Commandment (thou shalt not criticize a fellow Republican) has held solid all the way from Reagan up until pretty recently. But it's /shattering/ these days. Bush has been so damned incompetent that people just can't bring themselves to shut up and swallow it for the sake of the party.

Which pleases the hell out of me.
