michele_blue found the best trailer in the world bar none. Cause yeah. Here. Korea, Wild West, Geoffrey Rush, all the good times. Oh, here's a four minute trailer. Weta did the effects. Also I'm pretty sure that's the immortal Ti Lung in there.
For bonus points I refer the curious to the trailer for Sukiyaki Western Django, and since that means I'm talking about Miike movies, here's Thirteen Assassins. Which they're saying is his masterpiece.
I didn't know about 13 Assassins or The Warriors Way. I'm so there!!!!
I'm still so disappointed by Sukiyaki Western Django and The Good, the Bad, and the Weird. But revisiting the trailers was good fun. If you haven't seen it, check out the Thai western, Tears of the Black Tiger. Seems that Miike borrowed a bit from the Thai western in Sukiyaki Western Django, but went and ruined it all with Quentin Tarantino and by not editing it.
I have not yet seen SWD. I'm in Baltimore these days, which is... not a film mecca, let's say. Although it ought to be easy enough to rent now. And I'll check out Tears, too!
I rented SWD, since asian movies are available on DVD months before they show up in the theater. Same with TGTB&TW. Both eventually made it to the theater in Seattle, but not until a year after I'd rented them at Scarecrow video (Region 3 DVDs).
Tears of the Black Tiger, like Hero, was purchased by a studio for distribution and it wasn't released for close to a decade. But both are widely available now.
