PBS is running the Steven Moffatt Sherlock tonight and the following two Sundays, so you might want to watch that. The gimmick: it's Sherlock and Holmes in 2010. Doesn't change that much: Watson is still an Afghanistan veteran and all. Not deep, but fun. And now you can't say I didn't tell you.

I need to get around to watching episode 3 at some point. I liked (didn't love, but liked) episode 1, then haaaaated episode 2.

Ultimately I like Martin Freeman's Watson a lot, but I think I've seen too many drug addicted/abrasive/antisocial/aspergers-y crimefighting/scientist genius shows to really like Holmes (even if 3/4s of them are derived from Holmes to begin with).

I think that 1 and 3 were both written by Moffat.

I should probably mention that it's Watson who's the Afghanistan veteran, not Holmes...

Is Holmes still a coke fiend?

Seeing as my understanding is that at the time a cocaine addition wasn't illegal but was socially frowned upon, the replacement addiction is probably actually a pretty decent stand in. No illegal, but likely to result is social problems if openly indulged.

I caught a bit of an interview with Moffat and a co-writer a week or so ago after which we made sure to note down when it started airing here.
