Oct. 8th, 2003 06:22 pmIf I were part of any sort of political movement in California, I would pay close attention to this map. I would not waste time complaining about how foolish people were. I would figure out why the map looks like that, and take advantage of the reasons.
Talking about how it’s time to stop holding back counts as complaining, by the by.

Date: 2003-10-08 03:58 pm (UTC)Perhaps the thing I find most interesting about that map is just... so, highly-paid Silicon Valley types would really choose "tough love for California" and higher taxes? And as another aside, it's also interesting in that most of the latinos I know were offended a) by the assumption that they'd all vote NO and Bustamante because he's a latino and b) that they'd be swayed by driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, when they know Davis has vetoed that before and nobody seems interested in fixing the problems that make it so some people can't readily get legal in the first place and c) does everyone really think they're so stupid they can't detect pandering?
Belated congrats, incidentally, on your own escape from this neck of the woods. At the rate we're going, we might escape by 2020 or so.

Date: 2003-10-09 09:08 am (UTC)This is not too surprising, because although the highly-paid technical types (and higher-paid parasites on the ability of the technical types) are the most visible, there are also a whole lot of poorly-paid, mostly Hispanic service industry victims to serve those geeks their lattes and change the oil in their BMWs. Not to mention the just plain freaks that SF and environs are famous for.
